"A unique tasting and best bread pudding ever, and don't just take my opinion! Make it for yourself, family or friends, and see! I have read pages of bread puddings on AllRecipes and could not find this one. A family friend's mother has passed this recipe down, and I am excited to share it with you!"
Ingredients:
Bread Pudding:
4 cups of loose bread pieces
3 eggs (lightly beaten)
2 cups milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg*
1 teaspoon vanilla

Hard Sauce:
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg*
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
1. Bread Pudding: Butter or spray an 8-inch square baking dish. Place the pieces of bread in bottom, evenly. Pour, over the bread pieces, the egg/milk mixture. Bake until 'set' at 325 degrees, approx 25-30 min.
2. Hard Sauce: Lay a stick of butter out to soften. Mix in nutmeg and vanilla, thoroughly. Add powdered sugar gradually, until it reaches the consistency desired. Chill until very firm. Serve by spooning over the bread pudding. It is rich, so usually a couple big spoonsful per serving is enough.
